Fishburne Military School, founded in 1879, is a college preparatory day and boarding school for boys, (grades 7 through 12) set within the historic Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
Distinguished as the oldest and smallest of Virginia’s military schools, Fishburne offers a wide selection of courses with individual attention in a caring, structured environment.
Fishburne prepares a diverse group of young men for college and a lifetime of leadership. A 100% college acceptance rate validates our program’s success.
Typical class sizes range from 10-13 students, with an approximate 1:6 Teacher to Student ratio. This ensures that every cadet receives the support needed for a well-rounded education.
FMS Alumni include a former governor, Pulitzer Prize winner, business leaders, physicians, educators, entrepreneurs, attorneys and statesmen.
Since 1929, as an Army Junior ROTC Honor Unit with Distinction, Fishburne is among a select group of institutions that nominates qualified cadets to U.S. Service Academies.
Fishburne Military School is the first school in Virginia accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Further, FMS is designated a Virginia Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

You are young and you want something. You want to be different than all the rest. You want to do something with your life. And you want to start it now. Try going to a different school, maybe because you are tired of your old, normal school, or maybe because it is a really good idea to go military school.
In these schools you will learn a lot more about life than in a normal life. You will learn about the most important values of life. You will learn to mechanically respect your superiors, and even more important you will learn to respect your equals. This way you will be more prepared to live and work in and as a team or group. A group or team only works if everybody truly respects the others’ rights, property and time. A good example is the military school for troubled teens because these teens need to gain more respect for others.
You will learn to be self-disciplined. You will also learn to establish a certain discipline within a group. This way you can always help and guide others and yourself in many situations.
Another thing you will learn is leadership. For some students this is one of the most important values that are achieved in military school. It balances obedience and allows the individual to show his or her capacities. This is a valuable asset for the rest of your life.
The military schools in US function as communities of groups. This way, students develop solidarity towards their friends, staff and other people. You often see this value as the most important value in Christian military schools.
In military schools, more than in any other educational institution, the students learn to be responsible for their acts. They will gain a sense of accountability.
You have military schools for boys, military schools for girls or mixed military schools. But there are more choices to make before going to military school. You can go to military boarding schools, international military schools or medical military schools amongst others.
